Dark and Stormy Cocktail Recipe

Set a moody scene at your next gathering by featuring a delicious Dark & Stormy cocktail as the guest of honor. Featuring a crisp ginger beer base and a splash (or two) of dark rum, this spirited cocktail is the key to a spooky good time.

The Dark & Stormy cocktail originated from none other than the beautiful Caribbean islands. Where the water is stunningly blue and the rum is ever flowing. A few weary sailors were in search of a concoction to aid their sea sickness that also packed a flavorful punch. Thus, the Dark & Stormy was born.

The beauty of crafting your own Dark & Stormy cocktail is that you can spice up the recipe by adding a few festive ingredients to the mix. When we get prepped to serve a batch of this delicious drink, we add in a bit of freshly squeezed lime juice to bring a complementary flavor to the cocktail.

A Few Key Ingredients:

  • Dark Rum – try a spiced rum to really mix things up a bit

  • Ginger Beer – make sure to use ginger beer not ginger ale, trust us on this one.

  • Lime Juice – add a little or a lot, it’s your cocktail after all!

Whether you want to serve a Dark & Stormy in large batches or per person, feel free to mix up the recipe to fit your preferred palate. Try freshly squeezed lemon instead of lime or even opting for spiced rum, have fun with it!

Serve it in Style

Choose a Festive Glass

Fit the theme of your gathering and serve your Dark & Stormy in a unique glass. We chose a spooky green hue for our happy hour.

Add an Interesting Garnish

Search your local store for dried lime slices or even candied ginger – yum!

Serve Alongside an Upscale Napkin

Say goodbye to paper napkins and hello to an instantly elevated gathering with a touch of linen cocktail napkins.

Dark & Stormy

Serves 1

Ingredients

Ginger beer (Fever Tree is our personal favorite)

2 ounces rum of your choice

4 large spring water ice cubes

Fresh lime juice, to taste

1 lime wedge

Fill a tall glass with ice cubes to make sure the cocktail stays nicely chilled longer. Pour rum over the ice cubes, then lime juice. Top with ginger beer. Mix with a cocktail spoon and garnish with a lime wedge. Serve immediately.

Make it a Mocktail

Omit the rum and increase the ginger beer plus a touch of black tea to give it a unique flavor while also maintaining the dark and stormy hue. Top with lime juice and enjoy!

Cheers!
